Teleports: Buy, Sell, Base and My Plot
The HUD's teleport buttons (Buy, Sell, Base, My Plot) and the cards on the Worlds screen really move players, and zones can cost coins or need a level. The Extra is called Teleports & Zones, and its id in GameData is teleports.
Turn it on#
- On the website, switch on Teleports & Zones in your design's Extras panel (Data Saving comes on too), then export and install.
- In Studio, mark each place in your map with a TeleportPoint part named like the place:
Shop,Sell,Eggs. On a BloxMaps map, its zones and markers (a Shop, an Egg...) count as places already. - Press Play and press each teleport button once.
Where each button goes#
Each teleport button on the HUD sends a place name. Its id in the design is tp_ + that name: tp_shop sends shop.
| Button | Sends | Goes to |
|---|---|---|
| Buy | shop or buy | A place called Shop (buy also finds Buy or Store): a TeleportPoint part, or a BloxMaps Shop marker. |
| Sell | sell | A place called Sell, SellArea, SellZone or SellPad. |
| Base, and the tycoon's My Plot sign | base | The player's own plot when Tycoon Plots is on and they have one, else the spawn (your SpawnLocation). |
| Anything else | eggs, garden, gym... | A place with that name: a TeleportPoint part called Eggs, Garden... |
Names ignore capitals, spaces and a final "s": Eggs, egg and EGGS all match. spawn, base, lobby and home always mean the spawn (or the player's plot).
Mark a place: a TeleportPoint part#
- Insert a Part, anchor it and put it on the ground where players should land. Players are placed on top of it.
- Name it like the place, for example
Shop. - In the Properties window, under Tags, add the tag
TeleportPoint. - Optional: make it invisible (
Transparency1,CanCollideoff).
A TeleportPoint can also carry attributes: Name (used instead of the part's name), Price and Currency (a one-time unlock), Level (the level needed).
The Worlds screen, locks and portals#
- World cards go to the place with the card's name: a BloxMaps zone, a marker or a TeleportPoint. Cards that match nothing go to zone 1, 2, 3 in order.
- A locked card costs what it says on it ("5,000 Coins", "Level 10"). The player taps it, says yes, pays, and goes. The server takes the coins and saves the unlock.
- BloxMaps simulator gates get an Unlock prompt, and the barrier disappears for players who unlocked the zone. Players who walk into a zone they don't own are sent back after 2 seconds.
- Walk-in portals: a part tagged
TeleportPadwith the attributeTo(a place name like"Shop", a zone number, or"Spawn") teleports whoever steps in.
The destinations list (optional)#
Start without it. Add a row to destinations only to change where something goes, set a price or a level, or send a card to another place in your game:
destinations = {
{ name = "Forest", target = "", currency = "coins", price = 5000, level = 0 },
{ name = "MyPlot", target = "Spawn", currency = "coins", price = 0, level = 0 },
{ name = "Arena", target = "", placeId = 1234567890,
currency = "coins", price = 0, level = 10 },
},| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
name | The world card, button or place name this row is about. |
target | Where it really goes: a TeleportPoint or marker name, or a zone number. Empty = the same as name. |
placeId | Another place's id (in the Creator Hub, under your experience's Places). Leave it out for this place. |
currency, price | The price to unlock it once. 0 = free. |
level | The level needed. 0 = none. |
| Setting | What it means | Starts as |
|---|---|---|
zoneCurrency | The currency of BloxMaps zone prices, when a gate doesn't name one. | your first currency |
designPrices | Read prices from the design's locked world cards. | true |
pads | Walk-in portals work. | true |
gates | Zone gates get an Unlock prompt and open for their owners. | true |
enforceZones | Send players out of zones they haven't unlocked. | true |
cooldownSeconds | Seconds between two teleports. | 2 |
Troubleshooting#
- "That place isn't ready yet." Nothing in the map has that name. Add a TeleportPoint part named like the place (the button's id without
tp_), or a destinations row. - Output says
the world card "Forest" has no place to go: the same fix, for a world card. - Base or My Plot goes to the spawn: Tycoon Plots isn't on, or the player hasn't claimed a plot yet.
- A My Plot button says "That place isn't ready yet." in a game without plots: add the row
{ name = "MyPlot", target = "Spawn", ... }shown above. - A card with a
placeIddoes nothing in Studio: teleports to other places only work in the published game. - The wrong price: a destinations row wins, then a BloxMaps gate's
Cost, then a TeleportPoint'sPrice, then the text on the card. - Players get pushed out of an area: they haven't unlocked that zone. Set
enforceZones = falseto let anyone walk in.
