BloxMaps vs Roblox Build, Assistant and AI plugins
Roblox now has its own AI tools for making games: Build in the Roblox app and Assistant in Studio. There are also AI agents that plug into Studio, and websites like BloxMaps that build a whole game file. They overlap less than you'd think. Here's what each one does, with sources, so you can pick the right one (or two).
We make BloxMaps, so read this knowing that. Facts about other tools come from their makers' pages or the press linked next to them, read on 2026-10-15. These tools change fast: check the links for today's details.
The short answer
- No computer, or you want the official free route: Roblox Build, if it's open in your country.
- You already have a game and want to change it: Roblox Assistant, or an AI agent working in your open Studio place.
- You want a complete, Studio-ready starting game in minutes (big map, HUD, shop, game passes and developer products already wired): BloxMaps, then Studio to make it yours.

Sources are in each section below. "AI Studio agents" means third-party tools that work in your open place; we haven't tested them, so that column only repeats what their makers say.
Roblox Build
Roblox announced Build in July 2026 as a creation tab in the Roblox mobile app. You describe a game and Build makes a basic playable starting point, with no Studio and no code: game mechanics, an environment, characters, sound and a visual style. Roblox says Build shares its back end with Studio, so you can start on a phone and carry on in Studio on a computer. The public alpha opened in New Zealand on July 28, 2026, for age-verified users. Roblox says the base version is free, with paid tiers for heavy users (TNW, Roblox's announcement).
In a hands-on test, Pocket Tactics' first build took about 10 to 15 minutes. They asked for an open-world city and got a smaller single building instead, and they describe the result as a starting point to refine with more prompts or in Studio (Pocket Tactics, September 2026).
Where Build is the better pick: it's Roblox's own tool, it's free to start, it runs on a phone with no computer, and you can keep chatting to change the game. If you can use it where you live, try it.
Where it's weaker today: most people can't use it yet, and the press reports describe small first versions. We haven't been able to test it ourselves, so we don't compare its output with ours.
Roblox Assistant and the Studio MCP server
Assistant is the AI built into Roblox Studio. In April 2026 Roblox described a Planning Mode that reads your game's code and objects, asks clarifying questions and writes a plan you can edit before anything changes; a Playtesting Agent in beta that plays your game as the player character to check it; and a built-in MCP server that lets outside AI apps such as Claude, Cursor and Codex work with your Studio project. Roblox says 44% of its top 1,000 creators used Assistant or MCP tools in one month that spring (Roblox newsroom, April 2026). Setup for MCP is on Roblox's MCP page.
Where Assistant is the better pick: changing a game you already have. It sees your actual place, so it's the right tool for "fix this script", "add a door that needs 100 coins" or "move this logic to the server". It's free in Studio (Roblox sets daily limits on some features).
Where it's weaker: it works on what you ask, step by step, so it doesn't hand you a finished game design. You still decide what the game is and how the parts fit.
AI agents that plug into Studio
Several companies sell AI agents that work in your open Studio place. Two examples, in their own words: Rebirth says it writes the scripts and builds the world in Roblox Studio from plain-English prompts, with free credits at sign-up; Ropilot says it is a desktop app with a Studio plugin that writes Luau and UI, makes changes inside your real project and playtests in Studio, with free starter credits. We haven't tested them and don't repeat their performance claims.
Where they're the better pick: ongoing work on your own project, especially if you can review code changes.
Watch out for: they change many things fast, so save a copy first and test each change.
BloxMaps
BloxMaps builds a complete first version from a sentence, in your browser: the map, the HUD and menus, a shop with game passes and developer products connected to Roblox's purchase prompts, the gameplay systems for the genre and saving, all in one Roblox Studio file. You watch it build and see it before you pay.
- Measured speed: in 1,694 of our own test builds (2026-10-06 to 2026-10-10), a whole game took 53 seconds at the median and 9 in 10 finished within 162 seconds; the map step alone took 25 seconds at the median. A busy queue adds waiting time.
- Big maps: up to 4,096 studs across on the Studio plan's giant sizes, with towns, roads and landmarks, not just a single room. See the map generator.
- Round-based games: a lobby plus up to 4 round maps on the Studio plan.
- Checked before you get it: the finished file is read back and run headless, to check that its scripts start without errors and its UI builds. That check runs without the real Roblox engine, so it can't prove physics, rendering, real saves or Robux purchases; you still press Play in Studio.
- Most finished formats: pet simulator, grow and steal, anime tower defense. The others are labelled Beta and may need a few extra setup steps.
- Cost: Making and previewing is free: 3 previews a day on the Free plan. You pay only to export. A whole game costs 15-25 credits (about $15-$25) to export, a map 1-4 credits and a UI 2 credits. See pricing.
Where BloxMaps is the better pick: you want a whole, Studio-ready game to start from today, on any computer, with the money side already set up, and you plan to keep working on it in Studio.
Where it's weaker: it builds the formats it knows (an unusual idea gets its closest format), it can't edit a place you already have, and changing a built game means building again with a changed prompt or editing in Studio: there's no chat edit for whole games yet. Exporting is paid, and it's an independent site, not part of Roblox.
For scale, public price lists put a hired, scripted game at $1,500-$5,000 for freelance scripting alone, and 1-3 weeks of solo work for an experienced developer (October 2026 estimates, sources on our pricing page). A generated game is a starting point, not a finished hit: you still look it over, change it and publish it.
Which should you pick?
- On a phone, no computer: Roblox Build where it's available.
- A game you already have: Roblox Assistant first; a Studio agent or Claude through MCP for bigger jobs.
- Nothing yet, and you want a full game with a shop and a big map today: BloxMaps, then Assistant in Studio for the changes you want.
- Learning to code: any chatbot as a tutor while you type the code yourself (see how to make a Roblox game with AI).

Questions
Is Roblox Build free?
Roblox says Build has a free base version, with paid tiers for people who use it a lot (TNW, July 2026). We found no published prices for those tiers when we checked.
Can I use Roblox Build now?
It started as a public alpha in New Zealand on July 28, 2026, for age-verified users, and Roblox is adding countries over time. Check Roblox's own announcements for where it is open today.
Which one is faster?
We time our own builds: a whole game took 53 seconds at the median and 9 in 10 finished within 162 seconds (1,694 test builds, 2026-10-06 to 2026-10-10). For Build, one hands-on report took about 10 to 15 minutes for a first version (Pocket Tactics, September 2026). That's one report, not a like-for-like test, so treat it as a rough guide.
Can I use more than one of these?
Yes, and it often works best. A BloxMaps file opens in Roblox Studio, where Roblox Assistant or an AI app connected through Studio's MCP server can change it. Roblox says a Build project can be continued in Studio too.
Is BloxMaps made by Roblox?
No. BloxMaps is an independent website, not affiliated with or endorsed by Roblox. Roblox Build and Roblox Assistant are Roblox's own tools.
What does BloxMaps cost?
Building and previewing is free. Exporting a whole game to Roblox Studio costs 15-25 credits (about $15-$25), depending on the game; a map or a UI costs less. See pricing.
