How to make a Roblox game on mobile

The short answer

• Roblox Studio, the app almost every Roblox game is made in, runs on Windows and Mac computers only. There's no Studio app for phones or tablets.
• Roblox Build, Roblox's own phone tool, is new and only available in a few countries so far (below).
• Websites such as BloxMaps work in a phone's browser, so you can make and preview a game on your phone, and publish it later from a computer.

Watch out for apps in the app stores that claim to be "Roblox Studio for mobile": they aren't made by Roblox. Never type your Roblox password into an app or site that isn't Roblox.

Roblox Build, in the Roblox app

In July 2026 Roblox announced Build: a creation tab in the Roblox app, made for phones. You describe a game, get a first version, then edit it, playtest it, share it with friends or publish it. Roblox says Build shares its back end with Studio, so a project can move to Studio later.

The catch: it started as an alpha in New Zealand, with an age check, and Roblox is adding countries over time. If you don't see it in your Roblox app, it isn't available to you yet. Roblox's own announcements are the place to check.

Making a game in your phone's browser

BloxMaps is a website, so it works on a phone without installing anything:

1. Open the Game Maker in your phone's browser.
2. Describe your game in a sentence, or tap one of the game ideas.
3. Watch it build: the map, the UI, the shop and the gameplay, with pictures of each.
4. When you have a computer, export the Roblox Studio file (.rbxl), open it in Studio and publish.

Building and previewing is free: 3 previews a day on the Free plan (games, maps and UIs together), and the plans build more. Exporting a finished game costs $14.99 once, or comes with the Studio plan, and exporting is something to do on a computer, since you'll open the file in Studio. The map maker and the UI Designer work on phones too; the UI Designer even shows each screen as it would look on a phone.

Planning on your phone (it counts!)

A lot of game making isn't building. You can do all of this on a phone:

• Write your idea in one sentence and list the core loop (what players do over and over).
• Sketch the map and the screens on paper, then photograph them.
• Plan the shop: what's a game pass, what's a developer product, what's free. See passes and products.
• Learn Luau by reading Roblox's docs and tutorials, so you're ready when you sit down at a computer.
• Play similar games and note what you like and what you'd change.

When you need a computer

To work in Roblox Studio: building by hand, editing scripts, publishing a .rbxl file, setting up most game settings. If you don't have one at home, a family member's computer, a school computer (ask first) or a library computer can work: Studio saves your game to your Roblox account, so you can carry on from any computer you sign in on.

Testing your game on mobile

Even if you build on a computer, test on a phone: many Roblox players are on phones, and small buttons or UI that runs off the edge of a narrow screen are the most common problems. Studio has a device emulator for a first check; then publish (privately is fine) and join from your phone.
