Roblox map generator
Type what you want ("pirate island with a volcano and a village") and BloxMaps builds it as a real Roblox map: terrain, buildings, props, paths, lighting and invisible markers for spawns and checkpoints. Then you build it in Roblox Studio and keep editing.
What it makes
A map from BloxMaps isn't a picture of a map. It's built from Roblox parts, models and terrain, so you can walk around it, change it and script it like anything you built yourself. Every map comes with:
- A layout that fits the genre. An obby gets a course with checkpoints, a tycoon gets plots, a battle royale gets an island with towns to drop into, a lobby gets a hub.
- A theme: tropical, pirate, medieval, fantasy, spooky, winter, desert, western, candy, sci-fi, Japanese and more. Genre and theme mix: a candy obby or a winter tycoon both work.
- Lighting for the time of day you pick (day, sunset, dawn or night), with street lamps on at night.
- Markers: invisible parts for spawns, checkpoints, chests and zones that your scripts can find. See markers and spawn points.
- Playable obby pieces: obby maps can include a small script that makes kill bricks, checkpoints and moving pieces work when you press Play.
Map types you can ask for include adventure islands, obbies, tycoons, simulators, tower defense, arenas, battle royale, racing, lobbies and horror, plus places like cities, villages, castles, dungeons, caves, beaches, mountains, volcanoes, sky islands, underwater, space, theme parks and more. The getting started guide lists them all.
Examples
These maps were each made from the one-line prompt under them.
More maps other people made are in the maps gallery. The Studio plan's giant sizes go much bigger:
How it works
- Open the map maker and describe your map in plain English (up to 300 characters). More detail gives a better map: "snowy mountain village with cabins" beats "snow".
- Leave the options on Auto, or pick the size, genre, theme and time of day yourself. A seed number makes the same prompt give the same map again.
- Press Generate map. A map takes about a minute, and you see pictures of it when it's done.
- Not quite right? Remix it: same prompt and seed, change one thing, generate again.
- Happy with it? Export it and build it in Roblox Studio (below).
On the Free plan you can make 3 previews a day (maps, UIs and games together) at Small and Medium size. Exporting needs credits (a credit pack: 3 for $2.99) or a plan, and on Free a Roblox account at least 30 days old; the plans make more maps, in bigger sizes. See pricing.
Map sizes
| Size | Width (studs) |
|---|---|
| Small | 512 |
| Medium | 768 |
| Large | 1,024 |
| Huge | 1,536 |
| Extra Huge | 2,048 |
| Ultra Huge | 3,072 |
| Insanely Huge | 4,096 |
Small and Medium work on every plan, Large needs Starter or higher and Huge needs Pro or higher. Extra Huge, Ultra Huge and Insanely Huge are the Studio plan's giant sizes, and they're for maps made of open land (adventure islands, battle royale islands and, up to Extra Huge, cities). Maps with a fixed layout, like an obby or a tycoon, stay at Huge. A Roblox character is about 5 studs tall, so even Medium is plenty of room for most games.
Getting the map into Roblox Studio
The BloxMaps Cloud plugin builds an exported map into the place you have open in Studio:
- Download the plugin file (from your account page) and put it in your Roblox Plugins folder, then restart Studio.
- Turn on Studio's CreateAssetAsync beta feature once (File > Beta Features). The plugin uses it to upload the map's models to your account.
- Sign the plugin in with the short code it shows you.
- Pick your map and press One-click build. The whole build is one undo step.
You can also download an exported map as a plain .rbxl file and open it straight in Studio (File > Open from File).
The Studio export guide has every step with screenshots of where things are, and what to do if something goes wrong.
Compared with other "map generators"
- Studio's terrain tools generate and paint terrain (hills, water, caves). They don't place buildings, props or a game layout. A BloxMaps map includes terrain and everything on it.
- AI image generators make concept art: a nice picture you then build by hand. BloxMaps gives you the built map.
- Hiring a builder gets you a fully custom, hand-made map, which is great when you need something exact. A generated map is a fast starting point that you then change.
Prompt tips
- Name the place and one or two landmarks: "desert canyon town with a train station and a saloon".
- Say the genre if it's for a game: "obby", "tycoon", "battle royale", "lobby".
- Write in English; the generator reads English words.
- Change one option at a time when you remix, so you learn what each one does.
Want more than a map? The Game Maker builds the map together with the UI, shop and gameplay as one Studio file. For layout ideas, see Roblox game ideas, or learn the hand-built way in how to make a Roblox game.
Questions
Is the map generator free?
On the Free plan you can make 3 previews a day (maps, UIs and games together) at Small and Medium size. Exporting needs credits (a credit pack: 3 for $2.99) or a plan, and on Free a Roblox account at least 30 days old; the plans make more maps, in bigger sizes. See pricing.
Do I need a plugin?
The BloxMaps Cloud plugin builds an exported map into your open Studio place in one click. The Studio guide shows how to install it.
Can I edit the map after?
Yes. It's made of normal Studio parts, models and terrain, so you can move, delete and add anything.
How is this different from Studio's terrain generator?
Studio's terrain tools make terrain: hills, water and caves. BloxMaps builds a whole layout from your words, with buildings, props, paths, lighting and invisible markers for spawns and checkpoints.
Can it make a whole game, not just a map?
Yes: the Game Maker builds the map plus the UI, shop and gameplay into one Studio file.
