How to make a game like Dress To Impress

How the loop works

1. The theme. Each round announces a theme: "beach day", "royalty", "villain era".
2. Dress up against the clock. Everyone heads to the dressing area to pick clothes, hair, makeup and accessories before the timer runs out.
3. The runway. Players walk the runway one at a time, posing at the end while everyone watches.
4. The vote. Everyone rates each look with stars. The scores decide the winners of the round.
5. Unlock more. Coins and levels from rounds unlock new outfits, hair, poses and effects, so your next look can be even better.

Why it works: it's creative and social at once. There's no wrong answer, just the theme and everyone's take on it, and the vote makes every round a little show. The theme list is endless, so rounds never repeat exactly.

The systems you need

• A round manager: theme pick, dressing timer, runway walk order, voting, results.
• The wardrobe: a catalogue of clothing items, each one an accessory or clothing asset, sorted by category, with locked and unlocked items.
• Applying outfits: changing the player's look on the server (for example with a HumanoidDescription) so everyone sees it.
• The runway: a stage with a walk path, a camera that follows the player on it, and poses (animations).
• Voting: a star picker for each walker, one vote per player, no voting for yourself.
• Progress and the shop: coins, levels and unlocked items saved; passes like a VIP wardrobe section or extra poses.

Building it in Roblox Studio

1. The stage. A lobby, a dressing room and a runway with seats for the audience.
2. The round loop. A server Script that picks a theme from a list, starts a timer, then moves to the runway.
3. A small wardrobe first. Ten items in two categories. A UI lists them; picking one asks the server to apply it to the player's character.
4. The runway walk. Teleport each player in turn to the start of the runway, let them walk for a few seconds, and point the audience's cameras at them with a LocalScript.
5. Voting. While someone walks, show everyone else 1 to 5 stars. Collect votes on the server and average them.
6. Rewards and saving. Coins for taking part and for placing; unlocked items saved with a DataStore.

Only use clothing and accessories you're allowed to use in your game, for example from the Creator Store, and make sure your themes and items suit all ages.

Make it yours (and keep it allowed)

Lots of Roblox hits start as "a game like X, but...". That's fine. What isn't fine, under Roblox's rules and copyright law, is copying: another game's name, logo, characters, art, sounds, map or scripts. Copies also tend to get reported and taken down, and players can tell. To make the format yours:

• Change the theme. Different world, different creatures or items, different mood.
• Add one rule of your own. A twist on the loop that only your game has.
• Use your own names and art, or assets you have the right to use from the Creator Store.
• Pick your own title. Don't put another game's name in yours to borrow its players.
