How to make a game like Steal a Brainrot

Steal a Brainrot made a simple, chaotic loop famous: silly creatures roll past on a conveyor, you buy the ones you like, they earn money in your base, and everyone else is trying to steal them. Here's how that kind of game works and how to build your own version.

BloxMaps is not affiliated with Roblox or with the developers of Steal a Brainrot. This page describes the kind of game in our own words so you can make your own, original one.

How the loop works

  1. Buy. Creatures ride a conveyor or carpet past the players' bases. Each has a price and earns a set amount of cash per second. Rarer ones cost more and earn much more.
  2. Earn. Bought creatures walk to your base and stand on pedestals, earning cash while you play (or while you're away, in some games). Collecting it means going back to your base.
  3. Steal. You can walk into another player's base, grab a creature and carry it back to yours. While you carry it you're slow and visible, so the owner can chase you and take it back.
  4. Protect. Each base has a lock (a laser door or a barrier) that keeps thieves out for a short time. Timing the lock is half the strategy.
  5. Grow. More cash buys rarer creatures and more pedestal space; rebirthing resets your base for a permanent boost.

Why it works: every player is both a builder and a thief, so there's always something happening. The conveyor makes rare creatures a shared, visible event ("a legendary is coming!"), and stealing gives players a reason to watch each other's bases.

The systems you need

  • The conveyor: spawns creatures on a timer with weighted rarities, moves them along a lane, and removes the ones nobody buys.
  • Bases: one per player, assigned on join, with pedestals, a cash counter, a lock button and walls.
  • Income: a server loop that adds each creature's cash per second to its base.
  • Carrying and stealing: pick up a creature from someone else's pedestal, slow the carrier, drop it if they're tagged or hit, place it if they reach their own base.
  • The lock: a timer per base, plus a cooldown so it can't stay on forever.
  • Saving: owned creatures, cash, rebirths. And a shop: common passes are VIP, 2x cash and a longer lock; common products are a short lock, a server luck boost and random creature boxes (show the odds).

Building it in Roblox Studio

Build in this order and test each step with two players (Studio's Test tab can start a local server with several):

  1. One base and one creature. A pedestal and a server Script that adds cash every second for the creature on it. See leaderstats and scripts for the basics.
  2. The conveyor. A loop that clones a random creature model from ServerStorage at the start of the lane and moves it to the end (tweening or a conveyor part), with a ProximityPrompt "Buy for $X". The server checks the price, takes the cash and moves the creature to the buyer's free pedestal.
  3. Several bases. Copy the base, give each an Owner, assign one per player on join, free it on leave.
  4. Stealing. A ProximityPrompt on creatures in other bases. When used, the server welds the creature to the thief, lowers their WalkSpeed, and places it on their own pedestal when they touch their base. If the thief dies or the owner tags them, it goes home.
  5. The lock. A button that turns on a barrier (CanCollide on, glowing) for a few seconds, then a cooldown.
  6. Saving and rebirth. Save the list of owned creatures with a DataStore; rebuild the base when the player joins.

Everything that changes money or ownership must happen on the server: stealing games attract exploiters, so the server should check distances (is the thief actually next to the creature?) and timers.

Make it yours (and keep it allowed)

Lots of Roblox hits start as "a game like X, but...". That's fine. What isn't fine, under Roblox's rules and copyright law, is copying: another game's name, logo, characters, art, sounds, map or scripts. Copies also tend to get reported and taken down, and players can tell. To make the format yours:

  • Change the theme. Different world, different creatures or items, different mood.
  • Add one rule of your own. A twist on the loop that only your game has.
  • Use your own names and art, or assets you have the right to use from the Creator Store.
  • Pick your own title. Don't put another game's name in yours to borrow its players.

Build one with BloxMaps

The BloxMaps Game Maker builds an original game in this format from a sentence: its own name, characters and map, with the UI, shop and gameplay systems, in one Roblox Studio file. Press the button to open it with this prompt (change anything you like first):

A steal a creature game where wacky creatures ride the conveyor past the bases, you buy them, they earn cash on your pedestals, you steal from other bases and lock your own

Build one like this

Building and previewing is free: 3 previews a day on the Free plan (games, maps and UIs together), and the plans build more. Exporting the finished .rbxl costs $14.99 once per game, or is included with the Studio plan. Then you open it in Roblox Studio, change what you want and publish it (how to publish).

Words like "conveyor", "bases" and "steal" in your prompt tell the Game Maker you want this steal-a-creature version (wacky creatures, walled bases on a conveyor lane, base locks); without them, its grow-and-steal format builds the garden version (see a game like Grow a Garden).
